5005 Aluminum Alloy (UNS A95005)

5005 aluminum alloy is a 5000 series aluminum-magnesium alloy with medium strength and the same strength as 3003 aluminum alloy. The oxide film after anodizing is brighter than the oxide film on 3003 alloy and harmonizes with the tone of 6063 alloy. 5005 aluminum alloy has good processing, welding, and marine atmospheric corrosion resistance, as well as low density, high tensile strength, and high elongation. 5005 aluminum alloy can only be hardened cold and cannot be strengthened by heat treatment.

Corrosion Resistance of 5005 Aluminum Alloy (UNS A95005)

Similar to 3003 aluminum alloys, 5005 aluminum alloys have good atmospheric corrosion resistance and the same high resistance to general corrosion as other non-heat-treated aluminum alloys. 5005 aluminum alloys are also more resistant to weak alkaline environments than 5000 series alloys.

Aluminum alloy corrosion resistance is determined by the protective oxide coating on the surface. When the oxide film is destroyed, the quick interaction of aluminum and oxygen can rapidly rebuild it. However, if the film cannot be restored, the base metal's strong reactivity will cause it to corrode quickly, rendering aluminum alloys unsuitable for use with reducing media.

Annealing of 5005 Aluminum Alloy (UNS A95005)
